Methodology
Last updated: 2026-05-18
This is the framework we use to research, write, and update entries across fixturepedia. We publish it so you can judge how thorough each profile, ranking, and head-to-head comparison really is.
Source hierarchy
We rank sources by authority. For every claim we cite, we prefer:
- Governing bodies — FIFA, UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC for tournament records, rankings, and official affiliations.
- National football associations — TheFA, USSF, DFB, FFF, RFEF, FIGC, CBF, AFA, KNVB and equivalents for international caps + squad lists.
- Official club + league websites — for honours, stadium facts, transfer announcements.
- Specialist statistical authorities — Wikipedia (cross-checked), Transfermarkt, FBref, Sofascore, Whoscored, StatsBomb, RSSSF and IFFHS for performance and historical data.
- Major football desks — BBC Sport, ESPN FC, The Guardian, The Athletic, Goal, Sky Sports + European football papers (Marca, AS, L'Équipe, Bild, Kicker, Gazzetta dello Sport) for context.
What gets covered
- Every footballer with senior-team appearances in a recognized league or international competition
- Every club in a top-flight league or with continental-tournament history
- All 211 FIFA-member national teams
- Every World Cup, continental championship, and major club competition + their full editions
- Stadiums of historical or current top-flight significance
- Coaches with senior managerial appointments
Refresh cadence
Player and club entries are reviewed each transfer window (January, summer) and after major tournaments. National team entries are reviewed after every qualification or finals window. Tournament entries are updated at each conclusion.
What we don't do
We don't rate players on aesthetic preference or fan loyalty. We don't take sides in live transfer rumours unless a club or player has confirmed. We don't manufacture controversy.
Conflict policy
See our disclosure for our conflict-of-interest policy and how commercial relationships (affiliate partners, sponsored placements where they exist) are surfaced on relevant pages.
